One Extra Foot That Changes What the Box Can Do
A High Cube is a standard container stretched to 9'6" exterior height, giving you roughly 8'10" of clear interior ceiling. For pure dead storage, that hardly matters. For everything else — pallet racking with a top beam, a workshop where you swing lumber, an insulated build where lining steals 3–4 inches, garage storage for tall equipment — that foot is the difference between "fits" and "doesn't." It's why nearly every modified build we quote starts on a High Cube base.

When to Pay for the Height — and When Not To
Take the High Cube if: you'll rack it, work inside it, insulate it, or store anything taller than 7'6". Skip it if: the box holds furniture and bins and nobody stands in it — put the savings toward a better condition grade instead. In the used 40ft market the price gap is often small enough that we'll quote both and let the numbers decide; call 862-236-3503 and ask for the pair quote.
Delivery Notes for Tall Boxes
Ground footprint and truck requirements match the standard equivalent — the only change is overhead: plan on 16 ft of clearance for the tilt-off, which matters on wire-heavy streets in Maplewood, Bloomfield, and older residential blocks. Do High Cube containers cost much more?
New, the premium over standard height is modest. Used, 40ft High Cubes are so common in the port market that they often price at or near standard 40ft units. 20ft High Cubes are scarcer and carry more premium.
Does a High Cube need more delivery clearance?
Same footprint on the ground, but budget an extra foot of overhead — 16 ft of clearance is the safe number for wires and branches during the tilt-off.
